About Me

Harry Ward, wearing a dark blue Berghaus jacket and a blue checkered shirt with a blue lanyard with the word “PRESS” printed on it.

I am a broadcast journalist based in Leeds with a focus on public interest reporting. My work spans regional news, local government, accessibility, education and community stories. I enjoy the full process of finding, shaping and delivering a story and I am at home with a camera on my shoulder, a phone full of contacts and an Avid timeline open on my MacBook.

Before training as a journalist I spent many years in SEND education and this shaped my interest in accountability reporting. I understand the systems that affect families and communities and I cover them with clarity and a strong sense of public responsibility. I take a professional interest in the way disabled audiences access news and I aim to make my work usable for as many people as possible.

I am visually impaired and work with adapted workflows and accessible equipment. The industry has been more open than many assume and I am living proof that visual impairment does not stop you seeing the story.

I currently work with West Leeds Dispatch, produce VTs for student and community media, and cover local government alongside regular court reporting in Leeds. My long term aim is to work in regional broadcast news. Yorkshire is my patch and regional television is where I want to be.

Available for freelance work, local commissions, and collaboration on public interest stories.
